<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Man oh, man... where has the time gone? I am so sorry to have gone so long between posts, but for those of you dear readers that may not know, I am in law school which started back up pretty much where my last post left off, and so I have had little to no free time to get back to this blog. I have thought about it and thought about it, but have just been too damn busy. So, here I am! I'm back! And with many, many updates to report. So let's go... </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2iEpUYGqrFReNifsMoVoTf8fhj2T9rmz1-EuPlIlcYVHuOLHF168a5Rj2lzFir-seyYf5t8orQ31SAnhSdgVSkzp1seYpdjlAWPPLkklHs4o1tDPgvl2WwfttaujqH6OivNwXUWa6dvwZ/s1600/P1010647.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2iEpUYGqrFReNifsMoVoTf8fhj2T9rmz1-EuPlIlcYVHuOLHF168a5Rj2lzFir-seyYf5t8orQ31SAnhSdgVSkzp1seYpdjlAWPPLkklHs4o1tDPgvl2WwfttaujqH6OivNwXUWa6dvwZ/s400/P1010647.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">For starters, we met with one of the previous owners of the house who lived here with his wife for 50 years... 50 years! From 1950 to 2000... amazing. It turns out that he was also on the historical society for our little town, and so he had gathered a bunch of information on the history of our property which he wanted to share with us. SIDEBAR: this town really IS lovely, people still do things like stop by and offer to tell you about the history of your home. I am charmed. Anyway, he researched the deeds of the property back to 1767 for the property, and 1840 for the house. Incredible. We learned all kinds of things, like that it was previously divided into apartments, and that the garage in back was a fully functioning carriage house, complete with hay and horses, before it was converted into a mechanics garage and later an apartment as well. I guess a house gets to do a lot of things when it is around as long as this one was. When they bought this house in 1950, they paid $11,750. Awesome. The picture at the top of the post is roughly what the property looked like when they bought it. We had a great visit and he left us with really cool old documents like his original checks to purchase the house and a bunch of other information about the town. So lovely. After we met with him, Tim found a tool in the basement bilco doors that was apparently used to remove horse shoes... this house is awesome.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjheFGZswKsshbWsnOHB9rxhVkX6pIyhzoARTQv-W_QXcqBg5iq6SHM1ry8TyIJCeC44_yoBttyCmDbN5bkyjB2uqePF5NlWKKcTJXpu1oP1iZogPqcqnliRdBwT5mRAoz7lq7OE5cxBWd/s1600/P1010646.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjheFGZswKsshbWsnOHB9rxhVkX6pIyhzoARTQv-W_QXcqBg5iq6SHM1ry8TyIJCeC44_yoBttyCmDbN5bkyjB2uqePF5NlWKKcTJXpu1oP1iZogPqcqnliRdBwT5mRAoz7lq7OE5cxBWd/s400/P1010646.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">So, turning to updates, there are many! We finally had a housewarming party to invite some friends over to see the place who haven't had a chance to come at other times. A good time was had, and I took advantage of the house being spic and span to take some new pictures. </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglJN_FofWxVcY8vWgAvyvIRxrF6doErK_Hg0d4uwutkcnqjsfgztjWpjhdrXCLjtGoBPZhEDIhM8XoUpInDYqEjlLFE0a_IyF-hq2MYyiAOV_xYU_w-VRy7LCjQfU16Vs4UStSoGvqLgMo/s1600/P1010649.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglJN_FofWxVcY8vWgAvyvIRxrF6doErK_Hg0d4uwutkcnqjsfgztjWpjhdrXCLjtGoBPZhEDIhM8XoUpInDYqEjlLFE0a_IyF-hq2MYyiAOV_xYU_w-VRy7LCjQfU16Vs4UStSoGvqLgMo/s400/P1010649.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2-YIYq5EJ-bnBFfzSTB8C_bFa8o2LrPBQGi6Xa3-aKvkbjTvGUOGg9b0rPBF3OWqZiimiQOmtXQDVF5Xj5SU3pk10Pnv4n6yTJlHKHZPawD1P5OcwcLpNfJ0JcirA2QPj9gmX4ZKCoCqt/s1600/P1010655.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2-YIYq5EJ-bnBFfzSTB8C_bFa8o2LrPBQGi6Xa3-aKvkbjTvGUOGg9b0rPBF3OWqZiimiQOmtXQDVF5Xj5SU3pk10Pnv4n6yTJlHKHZPawD1P5OcwcLpNfJ0JcirA2QPj9gmX4ZKCoCqt/s400/P1010655.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> We finally got the guest room put together. That is a new (to us) Ikea bed from Craigslist, the previously featured GIANT blackboard, and some family and friends pictures hung on the wall, since I figure family and friends will likely be the folks staying in that room.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1EIUk52xcVVFxWJFS0j5lyPk5R3ZrCb4hgaU544sfJnZAADPqS0Yyxh3VAf8Ck23rvf9-KZioaDoAX3ejIrkhsrWOW1ZiMuEJ6Snlr0KoJ28QpZVQ0l6OxuXl-L_O6AwphkA6Ht4vUtA7/s1600/P1010632.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1EIUk52xcVVFxWJFS0j5lyPk5R3ZrCb4hgaU544sfJnZAADPqS0Yyxh3VAf8Ck23rvf9-KZioaDoAX3ejIrkhsrWOW1ZiMuEJ6Snlr0KoJ28QpZVQ0l6OxuXl-L_O6AwphkA6Ht4vUtA7/s400/P1010632.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">We finished hanging some things on the wall in the living room and I replaced some dead plants with some nice alive ones (something I have to do periodically, because I am not responsive to my plants needs... oh bother)...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxZ027dU3Fr1YtQnWygNpNmHWaTslWZSlLxzdxUhtZGBrQZh61weUQkoYWWa8YfugjRfrZuapi9PjWCn-Hfkm-Gq4Nce4p7j6_98DaFuGTUpWMhWdWIIAKEifUWdghIoquS7gIJfj7lqWl/s1600/P1010663.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxZ027dU3Fr1YtQnWygNpNmHWaTslWZSlLxzdxUhtZGBrQZh61weUQkoYWWa8YfugjRfrZuapi9PjWCn-Hfkm-Gq4Nce4p7j6_98DaFuGTUpWMhWdWIIAKEifUWdghIoquS7gIJfj7lqWl/s400/P1010663.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">We did some additional decorating in our bedroom as well, finally getting some things hung on the walls to make it feel a little more lived in. Lucho wanted to demonstrate that we allow dogs on our bed, and also to apologize that the bed was not better made in this photo... These are just scraps of fabric that I stretched over embroidery hoops... one even has a little embroidery on it by yours truly... </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioUZ_H1OtgQM1rdDJq7ldjTZV_YeoK69J17R9Yi8GodlTDzIoEM3YaQ0cfr91Cm60OXIRGPoJpVwA2EjXmsjRRcddOqxUrJd-HFXNBTp3479vhM9U52K7Qg2Ex3gCkGv2z02TqlbYQICsf/s1600/P1010669.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioUZ_H1OtgQM1rdDJq7ldjTZV_YeoK69J17R9Yi8GodlTDzIoEM3YaQ0cfr91Cm60OXIRGPoJpVwA2EjXmsjRRcddOqxUrJd-HFXNBTp3479vhM9U52K7Qg2Ex3gCkGv2z02TqlbYQICsf/s400/P1010669.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Plus, I hung/framed some valentines that Tim and I have exchanged... one is from 2001! Wow. </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuvNml6pTXAYvOOmqF5AYSKgutdq-7KLZoTxR6DukCbuXM-6pbymZop541VQ-TsnKGPIFPme2hcCmNkncYEayP9hmR6eYDpPZf4jKuXqLq5F6QuppC_x4rjBDvk3RpDcnRKmLEGMi7EQj2/s1600/P1010671.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuvNml6pTXAYvOOmqF5AYSKgutdq-7KLZoTxR6DukCbuXM-6pbymZop541VQ-TsnKGPIFPme2hcCmNkncYEayP9hmR6eYDpPZf4jKuXqLq5F6QuppC_x4rjBDvk3RpDcnRKmLEGMi7EQj2/s400/P1010671.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">We put some old pieces of wooden trim above the windows in the hallway, but I couldn't get a great picture of it. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_0uWx8rUJG8I87qnHG1GUf3J64ggEhknZyB6C25Go5D0u75pjBB09hVWfp9PfDTQF89CBXG4msNilsAkTtHDmsmMLVXbtyXBiTBYFu8Td1wyLtbZijqlq8wgDMjRJqcxVyADQz9kGuyDQ/s1600/P1010657.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_0uWx8rUJG8I87qnHG1GUf3J64ggEhknZyB6C25Go5D0u75pjBB09hVWfp9PfDTQF89CBXG4msNilsAkTtHDmsmMLVXbtyXBiTBYFu8Td1wyLtbZijqlq8wgDMjRJqcxVyADQz9kGuyDQ/s400/P1010657.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The downstairs bathroom got a Deerhoof poster to jazz it up...</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4O-HaWteTQ1dzPY6rZJNniUPoNbF7TYaCblt-Zf0cmDpzYmvMX7rQWG81eq8FBVT8by_FPMcsmew4GPxOaqzLZUNWDhd9KrbBFn08OhRC_LJEHUyiA9YyAggYllSWmuATJ7B_Mdv8ayLk/s1600/P1010641.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4O-HaWteTQ1dzPY6rZJNniUPoNbF7TYaCblt-Zf0cmDpzYmvMX7rQWG81eq8FBVT8by_FPMcsmew4GPxOaqzLZUNWDhd9KrbBFn08OhRC_LJEHUyiA9YyAggYllSWmuATJ7B_Mdv8ayLk/s400/P1010641.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">As well as this little skunk ashtray for necessary matches... There is actually a hole under his tail for you to place whatever you choose... flowers seemed appropriate.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhL1Rp2tISmZ30uEKNbs3RraMxhq_AAiXauVTUj6voi3INMw8dCBrb3iy86gHbb_sLvWJ18mQf7w5giNrRribyEbQc8EJ0nNtPNhvGdydsZSLUUsGsnzcUd96jVJfKuRkgGsV-mO36uPIrC/s1600/P1010644.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhL1Rp2tISmZ30uEKNbs3RraMxhq_AAiXauVTUj6voi3INMw8dCBrb3iy86gHbb_sLvWJ18mQf7w5giNrRribyEbQc8EJ0nNtPNhvGdydsZSLUUsGsnzcUd96jVJfKuRkgGsV-mO36uPIrC/s400/P1010644.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">And the entire place got a good cleaning, which we hadn't really had much opportunity to do since we moved because we have been so busy just shifting things around. It really feels much more lived in to me know, and I am relieved in a way because I didn't want to get back to school and feel like everything was left undone.</span><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> {BEFORE}</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Umm... I can't find a before picture, so just imagine holes here... </span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> {AFTER}</span></div><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOeN12qmUD10O__2Cv1UH3HFTvAP-qmEhhLQMpatwtbx8-K6zmZcH5MDqMZYVsQ7OFHW6nRzsBsMAar3RfnOZybEvrl99Lckdt3ijRuhgAB_xK6Tw0Aox63zDkuQY-l0W7BiXS4KZnYgf1/s1600/P1010627.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOeN12qmUD10O__2Cv1UH3HFTvAP-qmEhhLQMpatwtbx8-K6zmZcH5MDqMZYVsQ7OFHW6nRzsBsMAar3RfnOZybEvrl99Lckdt3ijRuhgAB_xK6Tw0Aox63zDkuQY-l0W7BiXS4KZnYgf1/s400/P1010627.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Tim has been busily handy-manning..? Man-handling? some projects... he patched the dining room ceiling where the plumbers had made holes for exploration... we have not had a bat in the house since... I'm sure it's no coincidence.</span><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">{BEFORE}</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwZiMEgLISRoCTgMit9YK4VGIv9t4VEexwf9eKy10TmbuFUq1rceqX6RGCVJV6aUkfR2TTm-47arI_8IWmwEnc3CsGHZfWvJX5C8nIF7bhRGSp8vhNCDDgH5jX0InBfc7PD24tNYtHnULN/s1600/P1010356.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwZiMEgLISRoCTgMit9YK4VGIv9t4VEexwf9eKy10TmbuFUq1rceqX6RGCVJV6aUkfR2TTm-47arI_8IWmwEnc3CsGHZfWvJX5C8nIF7bhRGSp8vhNCDDgH5jX0InBfc7PD24tNYtHnULN/s400/P1010356.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> </span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">{AFTER}</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSYfl0JJPu9K19xYQVQzxzeHFc4fV8ixPdYBKJ66u3OGneoDkdb-_kE-AHztqG8Akdy_Tg12iWz_BzS7UnCPbEUNkh7NpGNGCSqoaJYx7JbKOxt8U1qZ24lNXcqAlvZd3KARzTFbyDxFzH/s1600/P1010629.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSYfl0JJPu9K19xYQVQzxzeHFc4fV8ixPdYBKJ66u3OGneoDkdb-_kE-AHztqG8Akdy_Tg12iWz_BzS7UnCPbEUNkh7NpGNGCSqoaJYx7JbKOxt8U1qZ24lNXcqAlvZd3KARzTFbyDxFzH/s400/P1010629.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</span></div><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> He also finished repairing the damage to the living room floor, caused by the bank's irresponsible plumbers... and just a reminder of how these projects looked before, and how they look now. Without Tim, these would have cost us a few thousand dollars to get accomplished. Yay for Tim!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Also, the electrical work is now completed. In the process, our electrician (Tim's stepdad) discovered that the groundhog that had been living under our kitchen had completely chewed up the wiring to our range and garbage disposal, so he replaced those wires as well. Next up is the heating project, which I am sure I will document fully when it is underway. Work will begin tomorrow, and ought to wrap up just when we are so chilly at night we can't take it anymore. Yay! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">What else, what else... oh, here's a few flea market finds and some items that we have modified for maximum greatness!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I am back from Rehoboth! I was hosted there last weekend by some lovely friends and adorable children, and it was a great pre-school relaxation mission. I was quickly thrown back into the madness of the work week, and so now I am finally looking back and recapping. A quick shout out: my friend's daughters made me this... killer!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I never take you to the depths of the basement; it's not a stop regularly visited on our house tour. However, I must show you that there are some very vital things happening... We are growing our electricity service! Hooray! It's pretty creepy down there, so I won't dawdle, but I think the big bad box is pretty impressive compared to what we had before...</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">POWER! Back to the fun stuff... Tim made this, from an Idea I had from some other bloggy blog that I don't recall. We collected the shoe forms and Tim stained the plank and voila:</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">And this...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiOnwBwX-LMZXo1vDnTS4v7BRK5Eop2YnDYdTZiZfDGFWOCczUEEIPjCZt-BHdv7-E8_rqjF5hFCVfZ2ITrSK4kIqo4P6JIkHqQ6Z5-7Wi-VAhW0ZnepZ6aVQQ_6_FenEfFE-4Me-HRt31/s1600/P1010619.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiOnwBwX-LMZXo1vDnTS4v7BRK5Eop2YnDYdTZiZfDGFWOCczUEEIPjCZt-BHdv7-E8_rqjF5hFCVfZ2ITrSK4kIqo4P6JIkHqQ6Z5-7Wi-VAhW0ZnepZ6aVQQ_6_FenEfFE-4Me-HRt31/s400/P1010619.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">And we had some awesome flea market scores. There are now officially animals everywhere. Quail in the kitchen? Yup!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />

</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Rawwwwwrrrr!</span><br />

</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">We've actually decided that we have to get rid of some things or else stop bringing new things in... there may be a yard sale in our future, or maybe we will be selling some things at the flea instead of bringing them home.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSYgS8d7VLgz9Rt79WDTioFPd4dwbhvhYvKDOXxPGITJUKmhsrKM1-hlLLJ2IEeQQ4oG8weY4GES6Z8erSgSBo2SUa9sOM55jSNcdnWGqSXs0nNzz_Vohyxcd_ppus1pKDjO9zUC5gsS2p/s1600/P1010614.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSYgS8d7VLgz9Rt79WDTioFPd4dwbhvhYvKDOXxPGITJUKmhsrKM1-hlLLJ2IEeQQ4oG8weY4GES6Z8erSgSBo2SUa9sOM55jSNcdnWGqSXs0nNzz_Vohyxcd_ppus1pKDjO9zUC5gsS2p/s400/P1010614.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">But this lamp was a thrifty score for $5... how do you say no to that? And, because I mentioned adventure, I don't want to leave you hanging...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeuybTomtZAcObsY7W5O7FLaRKTqPNWE-hy9dapoLVNB-yX5CV81BWwEtD78PqPrqQ6tRsLRfZXxFqGqMHBXubL7Z-ntGuSEg9Tj5hL4YTNX1W-4O48Nn-j3ClnKG0GxMa2ZhshXS_Ex8Y/s1600/P1010594.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeuybTomtZAcObsY7W5O7FLaRKTqPNWE-hy9dapoLVNB-yX5CV81BWwEtD78PqPrqQ6tRsLRfZXxFqGqMHBXubL7Z-ntGuSEg9Tj5hL4YTNX1W-4O48Nn-j3ClnKG0GxMa2ZhshXS_Ex8Y/s400/P1010594.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">This guy, pictured here wedged between the two panes of glass in the upstairs window, was cruising around the house when we got home from our friend's birthday party, and Tim gave him a good chase until he accidentally broke his bat catching net and we retreated... we gathered all of the animals (that are meant to live here) and spent the night in the movie room. Fortunately the house has a million doors, which makes it easy to close off sections at a time.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-vBzQo0koSUJVklxBVRrLVj963AkZ8LeG2wSs1_M0TOX9xRFV-W1loMzbko7vlJ9dyqHX-T-Hyn1odfSvDRGyG2ACk2MKGZtixY8pzEAiLB2w0F7_5bqO1lHPsmerycRw-qe1-cMRzLxb/s1600/P1010624.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-vBzQo0koSUJVklxBVRrLVj963AkZ8LeG2wSs1_M0TOX9xRFV-W1loMzbko7vlJ9dyqHX-T-Hyn1odfSvDRGyG2ACk2MKGZtixY8pzEAiLB2w0F7_5bqO1lHPsmerycRw-qe1-cMRzLxb/s400/P1010624.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The next morning, when we slowly emerged from our hidey place we found this guy between the windows. We closed the main window and tilted the screen so the batman had no choice but to make his way outside, which he finally did the next night. Never a dull moment.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5l4UoCXDG-A1AX1XoMuKF9CebfyoLdFemfKsvltufl4IzIHtgmrSYC50yR8pae5lzmG60-jSYoI6M3NvdhRF6Mj8j0u-eVgYSz28RJeo56b6M0s4SMnW1NxWUCgyprSaTLsDXi4rfHQlq/s1600/P1010598.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5l4UoCXDG-A1AX1XoMuKF9CebfyoLdFemfKsvltufl4IzIHtgmrSYC50yR8pae5lzmG60-jSYoI6M3NvdhRF6Mj8j0u-eVgYSz28RJeo56b6M0s4SMnW1NxWUCgyprSaTLsDXi4rfHQlq/s400/P1010598.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Today, Tim and his friend kicked some butt on the hedges at the end of our property... they were in serious disrepair. AND... while we had the help of said friend's pickup truck, this GIANT blackboard came home. We had planned to put it in our guest room, so guests could write on it when visiting, but it's too big even for our high ceilings. So, back to the drawing board (Oooooh, I couldn't resist...) </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2DTLweV8AmWmuCE6DBvN00UcoeonQTR9PHQ2BgkRJHdRxSlqiZAU5SlxJuCn4YS48dtowBKNCV2BmCd4oUBNtDcfnM3_zn7UtBFxL4FDYOMsn8yWCuJ0HSsG7uWVfS3uMQKyChocaDpIx/s1600/P1010611.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2DTLweV8AmWmuCE6DBvN00UcoeonQTR9PHQ2BgkRJHdRxSlqiZAU5SlxJuCn4YS48dtowBKNCV2BmCd4oUBNtDcfnM3_zn7UtBFxL4FDYOMsn8yWCuJ0HSsG7uWVfS3uMQKyChocaDpIx/s400/P1010611.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I think it might end up in our dining room, some kinda way... or maybe the living room. I still hope people will visit and draw on it!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">There's a ton of touch up to be completed, but at least the majority of the work is done and the stuff has been loaded in there...</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I am so excited to have finished a room. It is so good for my mental process! There are so many unfinished things that I feel over-the-moon about having one thing done. </span><br />

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">And just a reminder of the {BEFORE}...</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">We also had a great visit with some out of town friends, which meant I got to get the guest room back in order. And this stack of boxes... means I put away the last of the boxes!!! Speaking of house guests, we have been having an on-going bat problem... we thought we had effectively excluded them from the living space, leaving them to circle the attic, but of course as soon as we had visitors, they returned. One in the dining room and FOUR in the basement! We have responded in kind by filling the attic with moth balls, which they apparently dislike, and we are running one of those sonic thingers, but I think we'll have to bite the bullet and go with an exterminator. It's going to be crazy expensive, but I can't share my house with them. I just can't do it. Not to mention the moth ball smell is not really so great... if anyone else has ever successfully excluded bats, feel free to share your secrets!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">We all went to the flea market, despite the crazy heat and it was well worth it... I got this great planter...</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">And Tim found this fantastic otter, which he re-mounted so nicely...</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">And this little number is a permit... yes, a real live electrical permit because we are having new wiring run to the first floor and a new main panel. It's a lot of work, and fortunately Tim's step dad is helping us with it. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">And last, but certainly not least, you may recall the cute little settee that Tim brought home from the thrift store... here it is fully refurbished and painted. Tim gave it new bottom support, added some trim, and then painted all of the non-fabric parts. I really love it. Here's a before and after...</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">And if you look really carefully, you may notice that the floor is not torn up beneath that seat, and that's because Tim is working on repairing it. <span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">And it goes on and on and on... I keep plugging away at the office room, and it just keeps taking more time. Here's a sneak preview, but I must say, I'm feeling very frustrated with the extra steps that are becoming necessary...</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7pHfukyUtfD0s_rWYJEhzF2XgH_Uj3VlNxGg3ZLo6of8Kqa0pgoR5QzTmWKvDnReQb3znn8Lu4iFhwDtwSEEKGFExJYl7ULUuC3ajA2Z_hGwyb8NiVCyNYe5mztY2dxT9nZJ6zr03GGuE/s1600/P1010567.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7pHfukyUtfD0s_rWYJEhzF2XgH_Uj3VlNxGg3ZLo6of8Kqa0pgoR5QzTmWKvDnReQb3znn8Lu4iFhwDtwSEEKGFExJYl7ULUuC3ajA2Z_hGwyb8NiVCyNYe5mztY2dxT9nZJ6zr03GGuE/s400/P1010567.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Every time I paint, the stupid tape is no good. It is strong enough to pull away the paint, but not really effective enough to mask the way it should. I have no idea how to combat this problem. So, here again, I have to add a step to the process and go back over every edge that I've finished with a small brush and go over the white paint that has seeped through and the spots that the tape pulled away. I'd love to hear any wisdom on this problem. I've tried every type of tape and it always seems to be the same result.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3f20aQOZOGxdsWwdWpPYyiDEVp57YwA41iJkjz-eCA2pDRpts5-l8Nct1nylzksv2_IU-tIHvbCiLXctTNHGYtac8pzWsZHJUj253q6m6CzARC27G9OgSf7KcCZb8eLiPJDVEER9oAnVn/s1600/P1010568.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3f20aQOZOGxdsWwdWpPYyiDEVp57YwA41iJkjz-eCA2pDRpts5-l8Nct1nylzksv2_IU-tIHvbCiLXctTNHGYtac8pzWsZHJUj253q6m6CzARC27G9OgSf7KcCZb8eLiPJDVEER9oAnVn/s400/P1010568.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">That being said, I am tantalizingly close to being done. I am motivated to be finished so I can clear out the guest room in time for our guests to arrive this weekend. That's great motivation. Tim's step dad is doing some electrical work for us and has said that he will need to take the paneling off one of the office walls, but I won't even get into that now. I'm just going to stay optimistic that it won't wreck things in there... I can't wait to organize my books in color order! Plus, I got this little gem of an over-the-door rack to add to the charm. This weekend, I <u>will</u> have the final "after" pictures! </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlHU7K4cLFy-De71nmtAY6Ij682-1tpUpA_hyL_rn0MjxmCVqLQx5XyvOKRbzcMucsDzTfNAvYCSmj1Nq5wyDVMuSqgbHW_fnEpuPvbSwwyC6Wk6rwzlHYdbeA2oWfvFV7tqhQJmD8YjNe/s1600/P1010571.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlHU7K4cLFy-De71nmtAY6Ij682-1tpUpA_hyL_rn0MjxmCVqLQx5XyvOKRbzcMucsDzTfNAvYCSmj1Nq5wyDVMuSqgbHW_fnEpuPvbSwwyC6Wk6rwzlHYdbeA2oWfvFV7tqhQJmD8YjNe/s400/P1010571.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I also finally finished the curtain to cover the utility closet in the kitchen, so now our mops and brooms are effectively masked. I love Ikea fabric. </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8ovZxvHu5rB41O-C3q9c3ofY6ynS2auWFUdRS96WZFteThHN8U2sNhpzikykCau2GNoSpN9Rz-saz4pazMClAYAXGV1ydvXfTVbrnpdIqSeWgIHxMW16vNcafHqLPp5q698iHedHhSZa1/s1600/P1010563.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8ovZxvHu5rB41O-C3q9c3ofY6ynS2auWFUdRS96WZFteThHN8U2sNhpzikykCau2GNoSpN9Rz-saz4pazMClAYAXGV1ydvXfTVbrnpdIqSeWgIHxMW16vNcafHqLPp5q698iHedHhSZa1/s400/P1010563.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I imagine that it will be the kind of thing that I will change from time to time to add some new color/pattern to the kitchen. I'm also contemplating making a rug from some fabric and a drop-cloth and non-slip backing. I saw a tutorial for it, and I'm a little skeptical, but I don't think I'll ever find the rug I'm after at a good price. Here's the link for the DIY tutorial:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> </span> <br />
<a href="http://high-heelfootinthedoor.blogspot.com/2010/04/diy-chevron-rug.html">http://high-heelfootinthedoor.blogspot.com/2010/04/diy-chevron-rug.html</a> <br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I'm a huge fan of the chevron that is everywhere, just as shown in the tutorial, but I also can't wait to go scrounge around the PA Fabric Outlet. They have amazing fabrics, including a pretty extensive selection of upholstery fabrics, which might be a good choice since it is likely to be durable. That being said, I'm not ruling out the 99-cent rolls, because they always give up some gems. But I digress... stay tuned for this weekend, when I will reveal Tim's settee make-over and the final office pictures. And please, please, if you have any advice on the paint/tape issue, so share it in the comments... </span>Miss Sarahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02950271843355734090noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2464218950224282421.post-91028655843864666512010-07-14T17:04:00.000-04:002010-07-14T17:04:18.172-04:00Returning to the outdoors...<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgneh0ZbG4XKnW4D5JrqJBvw_1HSO89O72M1Qtw3BPniat34ex7CxfvPcaB5c8eKAJuAnUs1_jMwZcHkdlmceTEjFxCfJA_3tR3E4IxcjTGbbU_FRHiIMzUyE8pvQa-GHFgwpJZ3Iqk8XI1/s1600/P1010545.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgneh0ZbG4XKnW4D5JrqJBvw_1HSO89O72M1Qtw3BPniat34ex7CxfvPcaB5c8eKAJuAnUs1_jMwZcHkdlmceTEjFxCfJA_3tR3E4IxcjTGbbU_FRHiIMzUyE8pvQa-GHFgwpJZ3Iqk8XI1/s400/P1010545.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">{BEFORE}</span></div><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">So, despite the itch of poison ivy, I have returned to the outdoors. I had to get a few things planted just to gussy up the front porch, and so I managed to get these few things together. I also found a little plant-glamour for the patio, so now when we come and go from either the front or the back, the house looks just a little more lived-in. </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMG3ACwBPp9VwFzgmgn0dPlFvLkkznv-skyO-ezbotVK_sJUCw3AZhwxzeAj2T3DWFsk5i8C7MVkBzz_IJo-KosKo4M6fHvOw7LKqoRoBJ9fKT66-uwI0SKZ3TdiRDJZXmBRN7j6nkyOL-/s1600/P1010555.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMG3ACwBPp9VwFzgmgn0dPlFvLkkznv-skyO-ezbotVK_sJUCw3AZhwxzeAj2T3DWFsk5i8C7MVkBzz_IJo-KosKo4M6fHvOw7LKqoRoBJ9fKT66-uwI0SKZ3TdiRDJZXmBRN7j6nkyOL-/s400/P1010555.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Tim did a ton of hedge-trimming too. Take that poison ivy. I'm not scared. I may actually have poison ivy (or more accurately, the Prednasone the doctor prescribed) to thank for a never-ending burst of energy. The plus side is getting some things accomplished... the down side is not sleeping at night. This too shall pass. For, now, I am trying to capitalize and get things done while the getting's good. </span><br />

I am painting it black with a creamy gloss trim called "cotton balls". I love color names. </span><br />

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I am using "premium" paint for the first time, and so far I feel that the primer and ceiling paint have been well worth the money. The Benjamin Moore ceiling paint I used was incredibly thick and it covered beautifully. I may still have acoustic ceiling tiles, but at least they are now a beautiful, clean, gleaming white. Much better. I may get really motivated and start painting the black walls tonight... I am eager to get it done, because the trim will take forever... I'll let you know how it goes. We have some other projects in the works as well, including Tim's amazing DIY floor repair, so I will report back this weekend with the update. For now, I have to go do something so I don't start scratching! </span>Miss Sarahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02950271843355734090noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2464218950224282421.post-55516642978422527572010-07-08T17:48:00.001-04:002010-07-08T17:49:12.283-04:00Hiatus...<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8M_rNl7RrEbINzybQvl9c14Q5uoO7nZjWBTYPPeIledQP3BqAW5u5N1UNFsjnDWYJDWcoSJMX9aNgrTK-nKt9saNPi3jE6IIud7E_eLDyWIMnIcbXfzSmEWA-hHAItWtEc77UrSBtxeuy/s1600/Poison-Ivy-moon.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8M_rNl7RrEbINzybQvl9c14Q5uoO7nZjWBTYPPeIledQP3BqAW5u5N1UNFsjnDWYJDWcoSJMX9aNgrTK-nKt9saNPi3jE6IIud7E_eLDyWIMnIcbXfzSmEWA-hHAItWtEc77UrSBtxeuy/s400/Poison-Ivy-moon.jpg" width="305" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Soooooo... nothing too exciting to update, because I have been sidelined with a really wicked case of poison ivy. I mention this not only to whine a bit in a fruitless effort to feel better, but also to do a little PSA and say that after gardening or major outdoorsiness you should wipe down with soap and water. This attack of poison ivy took almost a week and a half to bloom, but was apparently the result of the previously blogged about yard work blitz. I pulled bags and bags of vines, some of which were apparently poison ivy or sumac. I would have never guessed it could lay in wait that way and take a week or more to appear, but it can. I was also surprised to learn about a few other ivy myths:</span><br />
<ul><li><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">You can't spread it to others or from yourself to another place on yourself. It is really a matter of direct contact with the oil that is omnipresent on the various poison plants.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The reaction is actually an allergic reaction which is why not everybody is susceptible, or why you may not have reacted before and are only reacting now, as in my case. </span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Don't burn it; the oil can become airborne in the soot and get into your eyes and nose and lungs. Sounds miserable.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Even though it is not spreadable, it may seem as though it is spreading because it takes time to "bloom" and you may have a dot or two that later turns into 12 dots conspiring to drive you crazy.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">You should still not scratch it, because you can easily develop a secondary infection (like staph or strep...) or it can cause scarring.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">And lastly, my doctor said that you should never use bleach or alcohol or whatever, because although they dry out the skin they are doing damage and not really drying up the allergic reaction. Also, she said calamine doesn't really work... who knew?</span></li>
</ul><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">So, thus completes my public service announcement and my summer warning to all of you. I am too grumpy and pumped on steroids to tackle my projects, so they are just laying in wait. I have not been able to sleep at all between the itch and the side-effects of the treatment, so I am just not a happy camper right now. Hopefully this weekend I can get back on target. I really am dying to paint that office, but I can't say that I mind putting it off until the days when the weather drops out of the 100 degree range and back into the (relatively) comfortable low 90s before I get back to the sweaty labor. In the meantime, I am wishing you all ice cold beverages and cool evenings...</span>Miss Sarahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02950271843355734090noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2464218950224282421.post-67155860801676243992010-07-05T12:14:00.000-04:002010-07-05T12:14:26.104-04:00The most amazing thing has happened...<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-4TKYtwLEfEAKfXhQfvjDf715e1eemhm7P8AOqYBfv0CKEWR_SVGoy2_paZ0V7bzp1IvmBy74t_5EyrFMRL9OnLc8R9wdqjdS-G1rKHW4Rb-pUGhwjqPjD2kfcCvoP-VxYyEM2bN2Gjyi/s1600/P1010533.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-4TKYtwLEfEAKfXhQfvjDf715e1eemhm7P8AOqYBfv0CKEWR_SVGoy2_paZ0V7bzp1IvmBy74t_5EyrFMRL9OnLc8R9wdqjdS-G1rKHW4Rb-pUGhwjqPjD2kfcCvoP-VxYyEM2bN2Gjyi/s400/P1010533.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><br />
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; font-size: small;">It snowed in my office! I know what you're thinking, it's been 90+ degrees outside so this seems pretty unlikely, but it's true. Actually, before the weather took a hike to the melty zone, I sanded and sanded and sanded the newly-spackled walls until they were smooth... okay, relatively smooth. okay, in the interest of full disclosure, maybe it's best to describe them as being pretty smooth in the beginning and working down to sort-of smooth at the end and in the areas you won't really notice. I tried to make them perfect, but quickly realized it just wasn't possible. So I am pretty excited to have just achieved completion, and we will leave it at that! I must say it felt like a workout, and now my arms look like this...</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3ICUD60hXeFwZRaCoftn_pclEcocmZiCXDNZ4xlCPXpYrJmoNt235VuI0x436fEsMNggggD-Xj-cOH1H9NLg7DeXtGIfWOKCxMpwGKBqqNQ8jPpX9uO9p_UZ4Kbsqk-qu59OESGEK53SS/s1600/Arnold-posing.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="267" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3ICUD60hXeFwZRaCoftn_pclEcocmZiCXDNZ4xlCPXpYrJmoNt235VuI0x436fEsMNggggD-Xj-cOH1H9NLg7DeXtGIfWOKCxMpwGKBqqNQ8jPpX9uO9p_UZ4Kbsqk-qu59OESGEK53SS/s400/Arnold-posing.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Because I did my chores, I got to go to the rock show. Those are the rules, so I obeyed. We also made a side trip to Ikea and finally picked up the porch lights we have been after for some time now... Tim is hard at work, installing them now.</span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">We grabbed some dorky baskets to corral some mess under the coffee table. I'm thinking about spray painting them yellow to make them a bit more interesting, but I must say that I am excited about how well they have organized the mess. Yup, I said it. </span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> </span></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgS-owSbRdnpOxvnL9MPccbNb_TPIt572e1lUhORQSW43L46CIKxXNIQUUU5OaKdXHzEplmp1If4NGXo23jZEtiIzXz4GYqOVt3zmQeAvLwbl284TSIrzOuTWKgW65A_cyoay4VGEc7aPS8/s1600/P1010536.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgS-owSbRdnpOxvnL9MPccbNb_TPIt572e1lUhORQSW43L46CIKxXNIQUUU5OaKdXHzEplmp1If4NGXo23jZEtiIzXz4GYqOVt3zmQeAvLwbl284TSIrzOuTWKgW65A_cyoay4VGEc7aPS8/s400/P1010536.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> </span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I also picked up some fluffy ferns to make up for the hanging baskets that I neglected to death. </span></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGBH7Z2nbzi0IthJvK5wIBfYqQlsg1cExHfAH75MFxybQ13MlD-NqnEgW9FT82NISzgy90Xnk08iZ17rcdQMMjYotg9b9ch_9IlZ-AUrVhHNCxXBfLXdmcv8Kqfh8bo3q8U8ibXLaqi-Hd/s1600/P1010539.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGBH7Z2nbzi0IthJvK5wIBfYqQlsg1cExHfAH75MFxybQ13MlD-NqnEgW9FT82NISzgy90Xnk08iZ17rcdQMMjYotg9b9ch_9IlZ-AUrVhHNCxXBfLXdmcv8Kqfh8bo3q8U8ibXLaqi-Hd/s400/P1010539.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> </span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; font-size: small;">We also re-grouted the tub downstairs, but that's not a very exciting picture. I pulled out the old grout and started to put in the new, and then promptly threw a fit because it wasn't really working out, so Tim saved the day and smoothed it on out. It is a temporary fix; we really need to replace the entire tub surround. As with all things in this house, that is not quite as simple as it sounds because we need a custom surround since the tub stall has a window in the middle. I happen to think it's lovely, but it does complicate things a bit. Also, it turns out that the walls behind the tub surround should really be ripped out and replaced. We'll get there, but for now the solution was to regrout the tub and clean, clean, clean. Next up will be painting and fresh linoleum tile. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; font-size: small;"><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; font-size: small;">As the end of this glorious long-weekend is drawing near, I am trying to finish up the remaining things I have started. For example, heaps of laundry, including fabric to make a curtain in the kitchen. I am hoping to get back up there in the office and get the ceiling painted. It is tiled, which is non-ideal, but fresh white ceiling paint ought to make a significant improvement. I'll report back if I get all of that accomplished! I hope everyone has enjoyed their weekends... did anyone else tackle any projects?</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Today I tackled the yard... it has been mocking me for the past three weeks, and finally I decided that there was no point in waiting for a nice, cool day to do it. Today was the day. One of my favorite features of this house has been the yard. It has really excellent and mature plantings, but it has been neglected for several seasons. Apparently the yard is as great as I think, because many weeds have been competing with each other for real estate there. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJ6S9oiAnnYOCtbNXATgyQPnD0XmTQay234aBZGHXBR9uwnyXl9I9uUC7HYHDxwGRYLhSOdmSFtZBa4QGY_92U1axp4GM-X0j5jXrmhAI_y0ux00vNIs992T2-Gi8ZgC-52w6v2N5DH8cc/s1600/P1010517.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJ6S9oiAnnYOCtbNXATgyQPnD0XmTQay234aBZGHXBR9uwnyXl9I9uUC7HYHDxwGRYLhSOdmSFtZBa4QGY_92U1axp4GM-X0j5jXrmhAI_y0ux00vNIs992T2-Gi8ZgC-52w6v2N5DH8cc/s400/P1010517.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The biggest problem was the vines that were taking over the peony beds and the wrought iron fence. As much as I hate weeds, I have to give vines their due. They are incredibly clever and efficient, not to mention effective. They follow existing plants, and then follow each other, so they can climb while hiding in something you actually want to keep. Then, they become so engrossed in the plants that its hard to get rid of one without getting rid of both. But, I managed to clear out the majority of the vines and weeds, and the yard looks so much better and more manicured. I am pleased. We celebrated with a grill feast for dinner. (Before/After)</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Hey ya'll... I know, I'm behind on my posting. This has been a VERY busy week! So here's a few updates... last weekend we had an awesome trip to Saturday's Market, and Tim picked up our new friend, Michael J. as pictured above. He's quite the dapper gentleman. In other taxidermy news, Tim also picked up the bat below at Jubilee Day; sorry, he refused not to be glaring in the photo. </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXmsCRfYtKSHqiyzsPLSS6iPnGdPj2B2ARkEThPHTrQMAumg0MItKPs4c5hU0p2In-laCKIJ8_SrQ3Cm_BCEmQWkY2Jd1o6fc-GE45bHeiFuirGEEnpGBrCsihTA4Ydl_FgNrb0cfdzZAt/s1600/P1010504.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXmsCRfYtKSHqiyzsPLSS6iPnGdPj2B2ARkEThPHTrQMAumg0MItKPs4c5hU0p2In-laCKIJ8_SrQ3Cm_BCEmQWkY2Jd1o6fc-GE45bHeiFuirGEEnpGBrCsihTA4Ydl_FgNrb0cfdzZAt/s400/P1010504.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">That bat was apparently a harbinger of events to come, because we have had a bat in the house three different times this week. We knew there was a small pod of them in the attic, and I could accept them as the excellent bug-catchers that they are. Now, they have overstepped their boundaries. I do not need them to catch bugs for me down here in the living room. No thanks. It might just be that I'm a tiny bit afraid of bats. They are so flappy and unpredictable. And squeaky. I am not the type to jump up on a chair if I see a creepy crawly thing, but flying creepy things is just another story... anyway... we have done a bunch of research and learned that they basically need to be "excluded" by waiting until they fly out at night and then blocking up any entrance-way that is a quarter of an inch or bigger. In this house, there are few gaps that aren't at least a quarter of an inch! However, compared to the VERY large price of paying a professional to exclude them, it looks like we need to think about doing it ourselves. Yep, my skin is crawling. I'll let you know how that goes, whenever we get up the nerve to do it. </span><br />

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I'm pretty pleased, though. These pieces were really helpful in pulling things together. I also picked up this Craigslist find, an awesome new desk chair, from an equally awesome couple. Truly, one of the best parts of all of this Craigslisting has been the super folks that I have met along the way. So good. People are actually nice out there, despite my sometimes low expectations. Hooray!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I also picked up this fantastic bar for the kitchen, a la Craigslist, that has really changed the feel of the kitchen. I am so happy to have it! It has resolved some of our counter-space issues, and will make it much more tolerable until we are able to re-do it the way we would really like it, complete with new cabinets and counter tops. </span><br />

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">It was a good weekend... then, we had an electrician come by and give us some estimates for replacing the knob and tube that we have running through the house. Our house has old veins. It is going to be a lot of cost to complete it all, but we can tackle it bit by bit, so it should be alright. It isn't as much of an emergency as the plumbing work was, so that's a relief. More update to follow... it has already been a busy weekend! </span>Miss Sarahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02950271843355734090noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2464218950224282421.post-75272364822560848322010-06-13T14:52:00.000-04:002010-06-13T14:52:02.583-04:00Super Flea Market Score Day<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFD209p0sgu-YBGw9btFLCPCyaBkFV5eCGi7EcXcoARs8hfyJsCh5ZWSs_pIpcdR7QDTOcHgqR6MnGEEFjGJchpVt0DCzqssvqsE8FgXlBdaewt_7frLWjz1CtvJ5pGkxx7qUGaoqZAIJL/s1600/P1010480.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFD209p0sgu-YBGw9btFLCPCyaBkFV5eCGi7EcXcoARs8hfyJsCh5ZWSs_pIpcdR7QDTOcHgqR6MnGEEFjGJchpVt0DCzqssvqsE8FgXlBdaewt_7frLWjz1CtvJ5pGkxx7qUGaoqZAIJL/s400/P1010480.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Every now and then, flea market magic just happens... this was one of those days. <span style="color: #444444;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I got this stamp set that is pretty similar to one my sister and I used to play with at my grandparent's house. My grandma had the best stuff to play with because she was a teacher... she had stacks of construction paper in all colors, including the manila with swirls. Top notch. The stamp set was one of the amazing things she had, and when I saw this one I felt like I had to have it. Done. It has the same smell as the one we used to play with. I can't wait to stamp things with old-timey letters.</span></span><br />

<span style="color: #444444;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I am very excited about this bike. It is a single speed bike with coaster wheels and a leather seat... I was smitten right away. We did a lap of the flea market and when it was still there, as the first rain droops were landing, I pounced on it. I will need to get new tires and tubes, more than likely, but still it was a great deal for such a cutie. I can't wait to get it all cleaned up and pretty. I am over the moon!</span></span><br />

<span style="color: #444444;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I did it! <br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">So this morning we are off to the flea market to find more stuff to put in our house. I'll report back if there's anything great. Also, hopefully today I will move on to taking stuff out of the office, to get ready to prepare for greatness. We'll see. It's Sunday... anything could happen.</span></span>Miss Sarahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02950271843355734090noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2464218950224282421.post-36265482757078787352010-06-12T09:05:00.000-04:002010-06-12T09:05:54.797-04:00Goals and plans, plans and goals...<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDfgRNBipgjJDTfeBpHdLzMc7MMyQvXsywkSoYZVxJR3xM_W_SjtLt6KL_i0Rd7o6XS4Nz-SmkC4erbtOnnso4S3fkMHcXfXAoNfwyAeM7s-z8d5vx4hwBKYzp16IcPEBvB5HrpYmGGMSv/s1600/P1010428.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDfgRNBipgjJDTfeBpHdLzMc7MMyQvXsywkSoYZVxJR3xM_W_SjtLt6KL_i0Rd7o6XS4Nz-SmkC4erbtOnnso4S3fkMHcXfXAoNfwyAeM7s-z8d5vx4hwBKYzp16IcPEBvB5HrpYmGGMSv/s640/P1010428.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">For the past 24 hours I have been thinking about plunging headlong into the first painting projects in the house, but I am slowing my roll... I still have all of the boxes to unpack in the kitchen and dining room that I had put on hold during the plumbing project. So today's new concept is to finish unpacking the enormous Stangl collection, and maybe get to the paint store to buy supplies, and start painting tomorrow. I REALLY want to get painting, but whoa lady, I should finish putting things away first. </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1XbE6oDFXhTUeOEEtSMgnyykdNHEyJpIU4aV9UXxEJxSy-1ZRdbibxVO7iwGre6X5D83cZnlC98VO01n0YgmjbrdYtm4hHBkExvYKhUIksF_WlXtD5Doe-iZKhkJNVnlAREMYX4-7wjMm/s1600/P1010431.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1XbE6oDFXhTUeOEEtSMgnyykdNHEyJpIU4aV9UXxEJxSy-1ZRdbibxVO7iwGre6X5D83cZnlC98VO01n0YgmjbrdYtm4hHBkExvYKhUIksF_WlXtD5Doe-iZKhkJNVnlAREMYX4-7wjMm/s400/P1010431.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">A brief note about Stangl... if you know me, you may know my rampant obsession with this amazing collection of dishes. My grandma and great-aunt are really to blame, they started collecting this after they were each married and the love for it has spread to me. I have probably 500+ pieces, which I ought to get around to cataloging, but mostly it it in boxes right now. It can look like this...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-uwCJizO4J1co9zvwTidT8vxinaThGv0HZT7ezk6FBSgiT8NnzU7rt1vwFWDCWgyVFmpGyNGj4b4lXCHX5H1L0EoqVHE8DLqy9luym1SUwZwg6Q_H-3Uzs-BnWgMMiUjsxS9wenEvSzDU/s1600/P1010432.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-uwCJizO4J1co9zvwTidT8vxinaThGv0HZT7ezk6FBSgiT8NnzU7rt1vwFWDCWgyVFmpGyNGj4b4lXCHX5H1L0EoqVHE8DLqy9luym1SUwZwg6Q_H-3Uzs-BnWgMMiUjsxS9wenEvSzDU/s400/P1010432.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Or this...</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhn_Qxc8Y2hQddPiAPe286gH2uQQOR5d1OGbnxBh2YJitc5mCc8X3G8KB1hR7QW0y5Hw4khmVItcb2NerGv-Y9cJOa465miiVqpFkM3q1KGz_DAWKg9-grtu-csT6exN086HoRFnsDVnK42/s1600/P1010433.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhn_Qxc8Y2hQddPiAPe286gH2uQQOR5d1OGbnxBh2YJitc5mCc8X3G8KB1hR7QW0y5Hw4khmVItcb2NerGv-Y9cJOa465miiVqpFkM3q1KGz_DAWKg9-grtu-csT6exN086HoRFnsDVnK42/s400/P1010433.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Or really any of hundreds of different patterns, and lucky for me as a collector it's easy to find locally at flea markets. The thing is, I would never collect so much of something that wasn't useful; it is a totally great everyday type of dishware because it has a durable red clay base. I love to have a party and roll it out instead of paper plates... I digress... I love the stuff and today's goal will be to get it out of those boxes and into those beautiful built-ins in the dining room. Fingers crossed, it seems like a good Saturday project. <span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Before I start the day's stuffs, I wanted to say happy anniversary to Black Thorn Gallery, the tattoo shop and art gallery owned by my boyfriend and his two partners... it was two years this week since they opened and I couldn't be happier for them. We celebrated with thai food. In those two years, one partner had a baby and another now has a baby on the way... one shop assistant got engaged and another was hired on. So much growth in two years... here's to a million more.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">That new shower curtain can mean only one thing; the upstairs bathroom is fixed! There is nothing better than coming home from work to a plumbing project that was finished while I was gone for the day...It will need a ton of paint and a lot of elbow grease, but the plumbing is finished. Now I need to decide just what to paint... I hate that faintly pink beige tile, but it currently matches the sink and tub, so maybe it stays and we just paint the walls above the tile...? We will eventually, on some distant day, put in one of those futuristic glass-walled showers, but in the meantime, I just need to not hate it while I take my morning shower.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Meet our new door-knocker! It sure beats the pineapple... I love it. Another thrift score by Tim; this time Salvation Army. Also, in front-door news, I peeled away the stick-on fake stained glass. From the first time we looked at this house, I have looked forward to peeling that garbage off the transom. Finally done.</span><br />

It will just be nice not to trek downstairs to take a shower... is that lazy? I'm okay with that. One of the reasons we were attracted to this house was that it had two bathrooms, and I intend to use them both. I have been dying to update, and first there was no internets, and no mobile internets, and then I couldn't find the right cords... anyway, we all know how moving goes. We are back in action at last! So here's all the news that's fit to print. First, there was the move, and things looked a lot like this for a while:</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnjrVFCnpav7m0ps-HyHrhfvFKLJW6KM2NAih2GYWIuPna4Qi5p5orCGYQsX2xn31feziSz36CsE49j5qDNQqRvPj-BORCm5Y671d93RZlN7a9i61TYJs5Af_JW45sVOqA6y0TjVwJ4MFQ/s1600/P1010368.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnjrVFCnpav7m0ps-HyHrhfvFKLJW6KM2NAih2GYWIuPna4Qi5p5orCGYQsX2xn31feziSz36CsE49j5qDNQqRvPj-BORCm5Y671d93RZlN7a9i61TYJs5Af_JW45sVOqA6y0TjVwJ4MFQ/s400/P1010368.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">In fact, it looked even worse than that, because our movers were terrible and their interest in helping us to move did not extend to anything "upstairs", and ended with collecting way too much money from us. I've never hired a mover, and I thought we would go for it and hire the pros for this move, but it was not even close to worth it... we still had to call in friends to help (Thank you Jarrod!) and we didn't finish until close to 2:00 in the morning last Friday/Saturday. Not so great, and not at all what we had in mind. But it's done! It's over! We are here.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh73ZlImW54Zy5e2zOuFVYmgA36NFVs2_SvglWCCDC60JjEBPf2n9lNKjkzLZa8KuHpKb4N2oF5TI6SXPlGEg0jaMODgJ0CUei1BWGpPTY_-jH75u299QyHz7CWcsWQhJOcefxmmqY2IaM8/s1600/P1010376.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh73ZlImW54Zy5e2zOuFVYmgA36NFVs2_SvglWCCDC60JjEBPf2n9lNKjkzLZa8KuHpKb4N2oF5TI6SXPlGEg0jaMODgJ0CUei1BWGpPTY_-jH75u299QyHz7CWcsWQhJOcefxmmqY2IaM8/s400/P1010376.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Now things are slowly taking shape. We have pretty much set up the living room, the kitchen, the movie room and the bedroom. Not in their final configurations by any means, but at least it's in a livable state. We keep looking around and thinking that we are really excited about being here, and excited for it all to come together. I am finding the tough part (as with most areas in my life) is being patient to get everything done... I want to just tear through and get it all done now, but that's incredibly unrealistic. Instead, I am finding joy in hanging flower baskets on the porch and emptying another box. And another box...</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPTQsYOyKnN6_mAarKMmTwV-w8tOpNtDpXeGISQs8-ionSdjxO5IsvuFXuLOFn3e49tiGQLeqPPhPS9RwXbkhHfXwgsnG7BxfUAS7ul4l6RY1v9VR4UT6iiTKWPf0ua0MEjV81XSyOatsd/s1600/P1010383.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPTQsYOyKnN6_mAarKMmTwV-w8tOpNtDpXeGISQs8-ionSdjxO5IsvuFXuLOFn3e49tiGQLeqPPhPS9RwXbkhHfXwgsnG7BxfUAS7ul4l6RY1v9VR4UT6iiTKWPf0ua0MEjV81XSyOatsd/s400/P1010383.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The real project has been the plumbing. As was predicted by the pieces of ceiling that were laying on the floor and the water dripping from the living room ceiling, we have had to do some major plumbing work. It started with new plumbing to the downstairs bathroom, inclusive of new faucets and handles for the sink and shower. We are learning that the bad winterization was so pervasive that it cracked the inner workings of the faucets. If you ever need to winterize, HIRE SOMEONE REPUTABLE! Fortunately they weren't on our dime, but unfortunately the damage that they caused is... The kitchen has also been re-plumbed and we got a new faucet and sprayer there as well. It is nice to start out with new stuff, but I would have gladly traded that for working plumbing.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2vnJJmwdr2RhPAK_9FTCBnECZ_o6mfTsnxV7SdwsNGAdZKmAg38ibbo1XvEFJ3oHl4yyFF2_hHGOqI9GCkr9nVAt5-bZEv0kK-pFwtA7tcqhEMbeUWJpqCtOWeKA19vWECopD0VEW42C_/s1600/P1010371.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2vnJJmwdr2RhPAK_9FTCBnECZ_o6mfTsnxV7SdwsNGAdZKmAg38ibbo1XvEFJ3oHl4yyFF2_hHGOqI9GCkr9nVAt5-bZEv0kK-pFwtA7tcqhEMbeUWJpqCtOWeKA19vWECopD0VEW42C_/s400/P1010371.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Now, the plumbers are moving on to the second floor... they are working on an all new main stack from the basement through to the second level, and new plumbing for our master bath. The toilet literally shot off of the ring when the water was turned back on, again as a result of bad winterization. The main stack was due more to age than anything else, so I feel a little less salty about that. They are also going to put in a shower, since right now it is only a bath, and again, new faucet for out horrible dusty rose sink. </span></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-SuPZhB9lZ1Mii1rekbzVj4oPcyDtBVxngFwfhVBmf-5QmFCwfXPlQFdmXpS_ZmFqu4fDgc6bzc8SDwHEmcTQ7ALr-4AsUjRgBlxyItAkXr4kScjZa4LEr8Bg0A5SXnu7w1s88fzTad5T/s1600/P1010395.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-SuPZhB9lZ1Mii1rekbzVj4oPcyDtBVxngFwfhVBmf-5QmFCwfXPlQFdmXpS_ZmFqu4fDgc6bzc8SDwHEmcTQ7ALr-4AsUjRgBlxyItAkXr4kScjZa4LEr8Bg0A5SXnu7w1s88fzTad5T/s400/P1010395.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">We did get to see some additional glimpses of old wallpaper as a result of the exploratory plumbing going on... </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3O4em_yyc7C9fQL23ipuwBlSzRU5MgxKXdbS6o3r2iN45iKQm4VrzHn7FNjjdidTboTGtMyR84Al2NArkgcCvAPqN30ZnZFAeJa1uTth6xqbSXLVy0p2CJ3Gs7R9yIUivkeXOBqh4jjF0/s1600/P1010394.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3O4em_yyc7C9fQL23ipuwBlSzRU5MgxKXdbS6o3r2iN45iKQm4VrzHn7FNjjdidTboTGtMyR84Al2NArkgcCvAPqN30ZnZFAeJa1uTth6xqbSXLVy0p2CJ3Gs7R9yIUivkeXOBqh4jjF0/s400/P1010394.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Once the plumbing is done, I am hoping that we can move on to some of the cosmetic stuff we want to do. I am thinking that I'll start working on my office, so that it can stop looking like this.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFY6qQX5ToMVqhDi8w8bspuksGct8G6IJok4H2tR2jks05J8IRoD6DBGvjUrFpcuZY3QcYgOWNrLvo0rViAfNlJwbk6ZmzgMD47d68ICma9BDmpKpc2hpKbvHZjj5d6w6zK1t7tAAMGdS0/s1600/P1010401.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFY6qQX5ToMVqhDi8w8bspuksGct8G6IJok4H2tR2jks05J8IRoD6DBGvjUrFpcuZY3QcYgOWNrLvo0rViAfNlJwbk6ZmzgMD47d68ICma9BDmpKpc2hpKbvHZjj5d6w6zK1t7tAAMGdS0/s400/P1010401.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I decided not to put all of my books away on the shelves before painting, because frankly it will be much easier to move this stuff out of the way while it is still in boxes, rather than a bit at a time. I am thinking about going bold with matte black walls and nice clean creamy white trim, with lots of brightly colored accents. Anyone have any other thoughts? I'd be glad to hear them... </span><br />

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Alright, that's PLENTY o'blog to get me caught up. I promise to be less of a stranger going forward. All systems are go!</span>Miss Sarahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02950271843355734090noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2464218950224282421.post-62738853901447237462010-05-27T22:44:00.000-04:002010-05-27T22:44:36.603-04:00Finallllllyyyyy!<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The moment we have been waiting for... WE CLOSED ON THE HOUSE TODAY! I thought this moment would never come, and it never seemed further away than when we walked in to do the final walk through and discovered this...</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5jqUI4efOP-eycIwxjsiCtvaKQGZay9_Lsjx-Rp4e3LSauJX90ctXvoht56ObsjBY4ca4NeQz37Z4R-BrDYye5Bve-ZKg2ky0L5bbmmenhUYTv773dZhH0Mr2nAjdwuK5HmuMKZbm8nWf/s1600/P1010357.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5jqUI4efOP-eycIwxjsiCtvaKQGZay9_Lsjx-Rp4e3LSauJX90ctXvoht56ObsjBY4ca4NeQz37Z4R-BrDYye5Bve-ZKg2ky0L5bbmmenhUYTv773dZhH0Mr2nAjdwuK5HmuMKZbm8nWf/s400/P1010357.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">This is a pile of the ceiling sitting on our formerly beautiful hardwood floors in the living room... apparently the incredibly crummy contractor hired by Fannie Mae to fix the pipes left water in one of the pipes surrounding the radiator and water was leaking through the ceiling until the ceiling gave way and dumped onto the floor, allowing the water to be released and soak into the floor boards, causing them to warp. It was surreal... literally, given that the floor looks something like Dali's melted watches. These are the same utterly inept plumbers that allegedly winterized the place, but instead left water in all of the pipes, causing them to freeze and burst. We now have leaks throughout, which are being handled by an incredibly awesome plumber that is taking care to do things the right way. Amazing what difference a good plumber versus a bad plumber can make. The upside is that we are settled, and the bank has paid for a substantial portion of the work. The real miracle is that we should have running, HOT, water by the weekend, and flushable toilets. I know, it sounds like that should just come standard, but not in a foreclosed property... we are so excited to start moving tomorrow and get settled in. It's going to be a huge day, no doubt about it.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">We went over tonight and dropped off some breakables and gave our first house tour. We also got to meet our neighbor, who seems super nice and very laid back. Excellent. I'll be posting more as soon as we are in and have access again... Comcast says that will be Saturday, I am saying we'll see... hooray at last! </span>Miss Sarahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02950271843355734090noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2464218950224282421.post-58299453287387907422010-05-27T22:29:00.001-04:002010-06-09T19:39:06.285-04:00The Interlude<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7RxYXM0-ShYhlNp0q4F2bly7uquY9B66wdoxQEKwsipJ1TckJh59_gnkj69WvUf7rDtjoIE5akBCp7-tpSHJUPvd4gfaGE5loSjWlff9vM7noQdG72sdGe8Q_gp9yON9-Lpp-Igj5OyVP/s1600/P1010234.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7RxYXM0-ShYhlNp0q4F2bly7uquY9B66wdoxQEKwsipJ1TckJh59_gnkj69WvUf7rDtjoIE5akBCp7-tpSHJUPvd4gfaGE5loSjWlff9vM7noQdG72sdGe8Q_gp9yON9-Lpp-Igj5OyVP/s400/P1010234.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Before I launch into all of the BIG NEWS of the day, I thought I'd take a step back and mention that our trip to Berkeley was great. We got to see my sister not only graduate from UC Berkeley, but give the valedictorian speech for her program. It was magical. So so so proud. And we got to spend some time with family, and wandering around looking at things. There's always so much good eye candy in California... </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />

It is pretty great to see the little scraps of art left behind after people make some really great art. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDMPorreEi1DEwc1RhGlOVXF9Bcw-dxIDomX_QwL__ddUZAvXNojlAT3o0iNQFcwbSYJ-VtdH_Dh4_fbWYLeQzOEzqF1ZVmzxNUv1W6vI2OXY4SQN7JQ5wGRcXvhEgPEAa49LeD3lixhzM/s1600/P1010241.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDMPorreEi1DEwc1RhGlOVXF9Bcw-dxIDomX_QwL__ddUZAvXNojlAT3o0iNQFcwbSYJ-VtdH_Dh4_fbWYLeQzOEzqF1ZVmzxNUv1W6vI2OXY4SQN7JQ5wGRcXvhEgPEAa49LeD3lixhzM/s400/P1010241.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">It was just an awesome place to be... we got to hang out while my sister ran a really impressive laser cutting machine to make these huge banners to be hung in a store front window that was featuring the work she did with students at a local school... they were also involved in her MFA show piece. It was great to see them and to ear them talk about their work and experience in making the project.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />

</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">We also ate and ate and ate and ate... such good food. It was a pretty nice break before returning to the housing madness...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrqZdXKAbZkFM5jBL7z58p0aUpk8P5_hQlSs4qiuhLADA8xqUQahAU9Y59BNa6reXB_XFSQepn9bYyyByyoIZwYAm4iIamhk5oFhRj7aG2xt6Or9S3-53t_804dGV5h0A9zs_tUiHYjaxW/s1600/P1010263.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrqZdXKAbZkFM5jBL7z58p0aUpk8P5_hQlSs4qiuhLADA8xqUQahAU9Y59BNa6reXB_XFSQepn9bYyyByyoIZwYAm4iIamhk5oFhRj7aG2xt6Or9S3-53t_804dGV5h0A9zs_tUiHYjaxW/s400/P1010263.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">We ended the trip with the most perfect meal at a restaurant in Sausalito called The Fish. It was right on the water, literally on a pier, and we had the best cold cold beer and fish specialties. Such a nice end to a nice trip. My only regret is that we didn't have more time to relax, but there was so much fanfare that we were celebrating pretty much the whole way through... not too shabby!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">All apologies for being so distant, but we were in fact away. There is so much house news to share... good and bad, including but not limited to the brand new, water-warped wooden floors in our living room and the fact that we should, finally, actually be closing tomorrow... I also have all kinds of inspiration photos from lovely Cali that I couldn't upload due to a faulty internet connection at the hotel... but, here is a little video to sum up my feelings on getting home and seeing the dog and getting ready to finally make our new home. It's been such a long time coming, but I finally think we are getting there. I do fully intend to maintain this as a daily (or almost daily) blog, so I hope my hiatus won't have put you off... massive update soon to come. There are few things that I like better than traveling, but one of the reasons is because its always amazing to come home... Enjoy!</span>Miss Sarahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02950271843355734090noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2464218950224282421.post-58033390326740729572010-05-19T22:55:00.000-04:002010-05-19T22:55:01.300-04:00Away We Go...<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKUWQJ5hn7UoZUGZiLrkrRqRsHCEZWCt_pSkPGeOy5G5YlpIRJGL2jV_zAGnKvcHhbf6LOfervWz7Npw2dAPFVoLx2I7g9Srumzp612ttbbmnU_vT3UskpXdbZffbgLJo25wP6RbxW3LUf/s1600/100_3417.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKUWQJ5hn7UoZUGZiLrkrRqRsHCEZWCt_pSkPGeOy5G5YlpIRJGL2jV_zAGnKvcHhbf6LOfervWz7Npw2dAPFVoLx2I7g9Srumzp612ttbbmnU_vT3UskpXdbZffbgLJo25wP6RbxW3LUf/s400/100_3417.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">We are off to somewhat sunny California for the next five days... away from works, away from the mounting stress and pressure as we approach our SECOND settlement date, away from agents who can't even tell you the name of the plumber they hired, let alone the details about the repairs... just away. I have worked hard this year and have been really looking forward to this trip. So I intend to make good on it and enjoy myself as much as possible!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">We will be staying at the Hotel Durant in Berkeley, CA close to the UC Berkeley campus, where my sister will be graduating as valedictorian of for MFA program. I couldn't be prouder. She is an amazing artist and very creative teacher and inspiration to all that she works with. We will be on site to celebrate with all of my family... ALL of my family... and I am very excited. I love visiting the Bay Area and always come back with a head full of new ideas from things that I see on my trip. I guess that's a major point of traveling, isn't it? To soak up the influence of another place for a while? Anyway, I'll try to post pictures of what we see and love over our travels for the next few days. There's always plenty to see... </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">And we'll hope that in the meantime the real estate fairies flap their wings over our dear little foreclosure and get things moving. It would be wizard to come home to a problem solved. </span>Miss Sarahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02950271843355734090noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2464218950224282421.post-42544465009780168142010-05-17T22:08:00.000-04:002010-05-17T22:08:09.575-04:00Monday all day long<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Today was as Monday as can be... back to work, off to the doctor's, and only one emergency house related phone call today. Not bad, really as a lot of days have had two or three emergencies each. Today, the credit union was questioning why the check we received from the proceeds on the sale of our house had two names on it and my bank account only has one... good to know that they are paying attention, but it did cost a race to the bank by Tim to sort things out. So be it, it has been sorted... aside from snapping into action to go talk to the bank, Tim also cleaned up the frames he scored at the flea yesterday. Now they look like this...</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Mostly, I'm just trying to ignore the sea of boxes and think of ways to spruce them up while our lovely friend Emily house/pet sits for us when we head off to SF for my amazing sister's grad school graduation. I'm so excited to take a break from box-ville, but would like to make it as comfy for Emily as possible. Plus, I went to the store tonight to buy plane snacks and I'm looking forward to six hours filled with cheese and crackers and endless episodes of The Mighty Boosh. Good times in the skies! </span><br />

<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Just about every Sunday in the good weather season we head out to Williams Grove Flea Market to soak in its people, place and things. On the one hand, this is how we have amassed way too much stuff already, but on the other it is how we will be able to make our new house so awesome... Yes, Ikea is useful, and Target has things that you need, but really, the Flea is where it's at. </span></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg58tzlZ1TDykONlUsqQlL7RkZHS8wgXzuFsuuf6mlMcHMpH0JyjmSyk2oM7ArTuH6UO-bt4pCvTRek-6E8rNsYPG5mt-JAaN2qxSg0bkBqf8ZHU9mUMU7jMcspCro_JIl-SJfj-oryGdHH/s1600/P1010191.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg58tzlZ1TDykONlUsqQlL7RkZHS8wgXzuFsuuf6mlMcHMpH0JyjmSyk2oM7ArTuH6UO-bt4pCvTRek-6E8rNsYPG5mt-JAaN2qxSg0bkBqf8ZHU9mUMU7jMcspCro_JIl-SJfj-oryGdHH/s320/P1010191.JPG" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">If you've never had the pleasure of Williams Grove Flea Market, you should know that it picked up where Silver Springs Flea Market left off. Yes, like Silver Springs it has an attached speedway, but more importantly Williams grove is built in to the ramshackle old amusement park that my friends and I worked at one summer; only one, that's all you can stand. Williams Grove Flea Market also extends onto the grounds of the Williams Grove Historical Steam Engine Association, where a steam powered train circles around the property, and a few times a summer they have specialty steam tractor and car shows, like today. Not only are we now the proud owners of the amazing stuffed goat that you see above, but I came to the conclusion that when I finish my law degree and become a paid attorney I want to drive a black Chevy Nova. Why not? </span></span><br />

<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">We also brought home this lovely couple for $10! The frames are so amazing. The same guy sold me a really nice light plate for $2.00. I'm not sure where exactly it will go in the new house, but anywhere will do I'm sure. Maybe in our bedroom, or in my den.</span></span><br />

<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">After that we stopped by the Antique Marketplace and looked around for a matching dresser and vanity set, but did not find one. We did see many other great things, including this beautiful Chris Craft boat, which was not on the shopping list. I managed to NOT buy more Stangl to add to my collection, which is unusual. I was feeling frugal, I guess.</span></span><br />

Last week I picked up a fire pit for $25... we have a perfect spot in the backyard for this thing. The back yard is in two tiers, an upper and a lower, and on the upper part there's a perfect little area to set up a fire pit with some chairs around it for nights this summer when we need to escape the remodeling and just sit outside. We could set it up under our big tree too, but maybe then bugs fall down on you... or maybe the fire keeps them away. SO maybe we have two great spots for this thing. At any rate, I was excited because these things are about $150 new, and after you use them once, they look like this anyway.</span></span></span><br />

They are way better in person than I had expected, and they were two for $40. Sweet! They may not be original mid-century Nelson benches, but I love them. Apparently they came from either a mall or a library in Syracuse. I think they may become one long bench at the end of the guest room bed, or maybe one will go there and one will be in the kitchen or something. I love them because they are that perfect kind of furniture, to fill int he gap somewhere that needs it. I'll post pictures of their final placement whenever we get there.</span></span></span>Miss Sarahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02950271843355734090noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2464218950224282421.post-66154632537432039762010-05-15T12:45:00.002-04:002010-05-15T15:07:42.551-04:00And so it starts...<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhujHfJMJC2C9NKav3P-_dR7lESzWtkuDBA0-2_bfrZ3-GgB97pHx45jCCAOTjd6tt1qDSoX9mFghhNOi5Ujbi2i9VwDrpMJHMfcxQssWC_blsY8Hef5opB1TZg0MUwqujv10LzinGaBHI/s1600/414.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><br />

<br />
<span style="color: #666666; font-family: trebuchet ms;">I've decided to start this blog over the summer, to document the putting-together of our new house... for those of you who already know us, pardon the explanatory materials, but for any folks who don't... my boyfriend and I are in the process of purchasing a Victorian home, built in 1840, and we are going to set about setting it up this summer. This, we think will be the house of our dreams and I wanted to chronicle the process of fixing it up and making it our home. We are certainly not contractors or professional decorators, but we are fairly handy and we both have a lot of creative ideas. I hope that if you are interested in what we are doing you will follow along and feel free to chime in with ideas and suggestions along the way.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="color: #666666; font-family: trebuchet ms;">Currently, we are still in the process of settling on the property. This house was a foreclosure and is now owned by Fannie Mae. This resulted in a lot of bureaucratic processes to get much of anything accomplished, and so we are currently beyond our initial settlement date and waiting on some critical plumbing work to be accomplished so we can get moving... we have learned that you just have to be patient (or pretend to be patient) and just allow the process to move at its slow pace. It's a tough thing for those who, maybe, prefer to be in control of things, but there's just nothing to be done about it. Our patience (or fake-patience) will pay off, however, when we have working plumbing that the bank paid for instead of us. I wanted to get this blog started in advance of us actually moving in, so it could really be a start to finish kind of thing.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="color: #666666; font-family: trebuchet ms;">For those of you that do know us already, I thought this might be the most efficient way to keep everyone up-to-date with what we're doing in the event that you don't get to come see us in person...</span><br />
<br />
<span style="color: #666666; font-family: trebuchet ms;">So to everyone reading this... welcome to our home!</span><br />
